Most are deeply personal, but every now and then, I stumble across a hidden gem I can’t even remember writing. Like this one, dated March 1, 2019. I am a member of a year long writers group that meets bi-weekly with the end goal being a completed manuscript Dec. 2025… While that sounds exciting and unreal and all things #sexinthecity, having deadlines and accountability with my writing is new, and the continuous self exploration has seemed to unlock parts of my subconscious that my body stored away many moons ago, in what seems to be attempts to keep me safe. I could be writing about a pleasant memory, when out of the dark abyss of my mind a memory that is almost like a movie scene appears in my head- I’m starring in this show that I have no memory of, different scenes just dancing around in my head. It’s weird. It’s scary. Emotions boiled inside; bringing them to a slow simmer was NOT easy. Every cell was screaming, the tears unstoppable. The dam had broke and I had to sit with myself, with uncomfortable memories that I had once tried so hard to forget, and let my body hurt, grieve for a girl who’s no longer here. That’s some heavy shit. I realize now what a privilege it is to even have the option of striving for emotional intelligence… That’s why Mudzie is on a Mission to provide funding for those never given the chance. In September 2023 I traveled to various parts within Italy, portions of which were as a member of a writers retreat. I wrote this poem after coming across a chiseled face in the side of the cliff while solo hiking through the hillside along a creek (quite magical, let me tell you I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life). Read that a bit slower; a chiseled face, in the middle of nowhere hills of Tuscany, along a creekside, with tomato plants growing between Italian limestone, while breathing in this air that was cleaner but came with chatter, and with zero path markers. Some say I am weird, maybe this is an example? The owner of the retreat we were staying at was quite surprised I found this sculpture without assistance; most have a map and she has to advise guests that it even exists, yet here I was finding it on my own… When I returned from Italy after the jet lag and shock wore off that I actually went somewhere, let alone another country, by myself, (the shock on other travelers faces that I was a solo woman traveling globally was sheer horror), on a writers retreat…I sent the poem to the creator of the sculpture, Emily Young, a well-known environmental activist and “Britian’s Greatest Living Stone Sculptor” unbeknown to me any detail of the person behind this, this was a new confidence I was trying on for size. She responded, and it is an email I will hold dear to me forever. There’s been an increase in followers so I thought I should reintroduce myself!!! I’m Alicia-writer, trauma survivor and mother of three, founder of Mudzies Mission, a non-profit providing financial support for holistic healthcare @puremichigan For the past almost 8 years now, I have been navigating through the murky waters of emotional dysregulation; through suicidal ideations, intense pain and emptiness that brought me to my lowest low. Desperately seeking repair, as if I was a burned out lightbulb in need of replacement, I turned to alternative treatments beyond the western ways. I was diagnosed with PTSD and sought comfort from the anguish my mind and body were in through psychedelics and this furry friend😍😍😍🐾 Fergus has completed a two week intensive foundational training @happytailsrule and continues to adapt and learn my triggers. Don’t get me wrong, he is a lot of work!! But the reward is so worth it. Currently I am working on his commands for understanding my heart rate, breath rate and environmental triggers. Right from the start, Fergus began to sense when I was feeling faint, and began to gently tug on my hand until I sat down. I couldn’t believe it!!! There was a point one day where I was having a fainting spell and felt a panic attack coming on. He immediately grabbed my hand, I sat down, and he put his paw on my heart. The pressure of this almost 70lb love nugget instantly decreased my heart rate!!! He’s a comfort blanket, doctor, best friend and therapist all rolled into one🦮🩺 A huge thank you to @highlandersgoldens for breeding such beautiful and healthy animals, loving them like they are their own children. Each day brings up a new sensation, a different subconscious memory, or a fire drill my kids have started that needs extinguishing. It’s constant. It’s so hard. Some people can’t just “meditate the pain away.” I am not here to tell anyone how to heal or what they should try.
